About
I co-founded and direct a community-based non-profit organization in Oak Park, just outside Chicago. We are a volunteer-based organization that provides comprehensive, inclusive sex education for kids K-9th grade and their families, using the Our Whole Lives curriculum. We have been offering extra-curricular classes for families since 2016. Before starting Oak Park OWL, I started a similar program in a small town in Alabama. I have a PhD in Philosophy of Relationships and taught in higher education for twenty years before switching to community-based sex education.
Purpose
Oak Park OWL delivers comprehensive, inclusive sexuality education to youth and their families. We use secular, values-based curricula to provide age-appropriate classes, trainings and workshops. We envision a future where children grow up ready to have healthy, respectful relationships with themselves and others.
Expertise
PhD in Philosophy of Relationships; trained facilitator in all levels of Our Whole Lives; Certified medical advocate for survivors of sexual violence in IL; Sexuality educator since 2012; Program Co-founder since 2016; Program Director since 2020
